Haiphong to Cat Ba: how the bus–boat–bus connection works

하이퐁 매표소 주변에 정차한 Cát Bà Island 환승 버스

A Haiphong–Cat Ba journey involves more than the crossing. Confirm the city meeting point, the transport used across the water and the final drop-off on the island before choosing a ticket.

What the combined ticket covered

On the journey recorded here, a city bus connected to a passenger boat and another bus on Cat Ba. The first bus took about 30–40 minutes, the boat about 10 minutes and the island bus about 40 minutes. These are the times experienced on that service, rather than a timetable for every route.

The ticket in the January 2025 record cost VND 140,000 per person. This is a historical fare, not a current quote. Ask today’s seller for the adult and child fares, luggage allowance, included sections and cancellation terms.

1. Confirm the city meeting point

A ticket-office location around Ben Binh can help with orientation, but the map label, ticket seller and actual transport operator may differ. Use the address and company shown on your own booking. Ask for the vehicle markings and arrive with enough time to identify the service.

2. Keep the complete ticket through all transfers

The paper ticket used on this journey had several sections that staff removed as each leg was taken. Keep the unused sections until the final bus. For a new booking, ask whether a paper ticket or QR code is required at each transfer.

Carry valuables yourself and count large bags whenever they are unloaded. Ask in advance whether passengers must carry luggage between the bus and boat, especially when travelling with children or someone who needs walking assistance.

3. Identify the correct boat and island bus

At the pier, follow staff instructions and check the operator rather than boarding whichever boat other travellers approach. Once on board, locate the safety equipment and follow the crew’s instructions. After landing, confirm the next bus before loading bags again.

4. Plan the last journey to the hotel

The final bus on this trip travelled toward Cat Ba town, but a requested hotel stop is not a universal service. Confirm the official drop-off and save the hotel’s Vietnamese address or map pin. The short electric-vehicle ride used afterwards had historical quotes of VND 10,000 per person, or VND 30,000 with luggage in some circumstances. These are not current standard fares. Agree the complete price for your party and bags before boarding.

Is the cable car the same service?

No. A cable-car ticket may require separate transport to and from its stations. The Sun World Cat Ba notice checked on 14 October 2026, effective from 7 September, listed VND 70,000 adult one-way admission, free entry below one metre and Tuesday closure. It described short operating windows at 09:00–09:15, 10:00–10:15, 11:00–11:15, 13:30–13:45, 14:30–14:45 and 15:30–15:45. Recheck the latest travel-day notice before committing to a connection.

Questions to send before booking

Give your date, adults, children and bag count. Ask for the meeting address, departure time, included buses and crossing, final drop-off, hotel connection, transfer assistance and the refund or replacement arrangement if the crossing is cancelled.
